ASEAN countries take steps to attract international tourists

International Business News  –  ASEAN Tourism Officials will be held online in Vientiane, Laos from July 5th to 6th. Kong Dong Zhanta, director of the Tourism and Marketing Department of the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, chaired the meeting.

During the meeting, asean officials exchanged views on solutions to increase tourist volume and ensure service quality. Discussions focused on safeguarding the health and safety of visitors in the context of the many potential risks of COVID-19 to global community health.

At present, many ASEAN countries have adopted policies and measures to create intra-regional travel facilitation, including measures to simplify entry and exit procedures.

Tourism officials in ASEAN countries have unanimously agreed to promote the smoke -free industry in cooperation in accordance with a action plan approved in early 2022 to have a strong recovery of a long period of time after being affected by the epidemic of new crown pneumonia. The ultimate goal is to restore the number of tourism and tourists to the level before the outbreak of the epidemic.

The Laos government launched a tourist stimulus plan in early 2022. In May 2022, the Laos government was fully opened to international tourists, while all pre -epidemic prevention restrictions were canceled.

In the first quarter of 2022, Laos received 626,825 domestic tourists and 35,980 international tourists. The Lao government expects more international tourists to visit Laos in the remaining months of the year.
